Abstract
The belief that sectors are more diversified than countries and that sectors explain more of the return of stocks than countries do has become very widespread. Particularly in Europe, the majority of investors have been following a “sector approach” for several years. In this article, I review a range of instruments for sector-based allocation including portfolio trades, futures, swaps, and exchange-traded funds (ETFs).
